Riding Indoors

Published by Bob at 6:00 pm under bicycling

Wow!!! Gas prices have really dropped since the last time I filled my Toyota pickup. I didn’t realize how little I have been driving until I went shopping at Costco’s today and filled it up while I was there. $2.11 a gallon compared to $3.95 when I filled it last, which happened to be the last time I was at Costco too.

This weekend I decided I wanted to stay home, read, watch movies, and put some time in on my trainer. Since I started commuting regularly I haven’t spent much time riding indoors. Riding a bike indoors is a love hate relationship for me. I hate to ride inside, but love the constant intensity and rhythmic cadence. I focus on my cadence, speed and HRM numbers, being sure to maintain a constant level of exertion to produce my desired outcome. For some reason, after about 20 minutes I get into “the zone”, time seems to fly, and before I know it I have 90 minutes or more of riding time.

In the end I end up at a destination, which is hard to describe. I think it’s the endorphin buzz and it leaves me feeling really good for the rest of the day.

Still about $7.00 a gallon here. Long may this continue…
