Picking Blackberries

Published by Bob at 3:51 pm under bicycling

Riding home from visiting friends today I took a road less traveled. As I rode along I could smell ripe blackberries coming from just beyond the railroad tracks which paralleled the road. The heat of the past couple of days must have ripened them, so I stopped to pick a few to eat. As I rinsed them with water from my water bottle, I was left wishing I had a container or bag to put the berries in so I could take some home. Then I remembered my water bottle was near empty, so I finished it off and filled it with fresh blackberries. I would have never smelled the blackberries or stopped to pick some if I have been driving my car. Just another benefit of riding a bicycle.

Tomorrow the forecast is for temps around 75 and rain. It reminds of how fast summer is passing and how soon fall will be here. In the meantime I plan to enjoy the summer.

I picked a few blackberries when I lived in NW. There were delicious but as I recall very nasty to pick due to thorns.

But what you say is true about bicycling. A person misses a lot when they are in a car.
