Riding the Right Bike

Published by Bob at 11:19 pm under bicycling, carfree

Today was another CarFree day, in which I did not participate in oil company profits. WooHoo!!!

Earlier in the day I made it over the river to Portland to see a friend. During my trip I noticed the increase in bicyclists and motor scooters on the city’s streets along with many more people riding the MAX trains. It is amazing how so many people are adopting other forms of transportation. High oil prices can be a good thing.

I made it back home by 3pm and was back out at 5pm to go to a barbecue. I decided to ride my mountain bike instead of my road bike to the barbecue only because I wanted to ride something different. As I rode this tank of a bike on the pavement for the 3 mile trip there, it made me think of people who have bought the wrong bike for their needs. No wonder so many bikes end up sitting in the garage collecting dust.

Riding back home I was still thinking of how many people are sold the wrong bike for an intended task? And how many people give up on cycling because of this? It was great to take the mountain bike out for a ride, but I was glad to get back home with this made for dirt machine. Next time I take it out it will be on the trail where it belongs.

I own a carbon fiber road bike, commuter bike, mountain bike, and have my old semi retired road bike mounted on my fluid trainer. Each have it’s own purpose which makes riding a pleasure. You can never have too many bikes.

And so comes to close another CarFree day.
