Flat Tires
There is no way around it, flat tires suck! But the fact is getting a flat is a reality if you ride a bike. I know, I have had my share of flats on my various bikes except one, my Giant I use for commuting. I know it is a pain to get flat, but it is a bigger pain to get one while commuting. With that said, I have had such good luck with not getting flat tires I am hesitant to even talk about it.
This began two years ago when I purchased my Giant OCR Touring bike for commuting to work, I immediately replaced the factory tires with Specialized Armadillo’s. I still am rolling on those tires and to say these tires exceeded my expectations is an understatement. They are not the fastest or lightest tire, but how fast is a flat tire? I am more interested in making and uneventful commute than I am in fixing a flat at night on my way home from work. Let’s face it, when you commute home from work in the dark most of the time, it is hard to avoid unseen road debris and hazards, so flats seem inevitable.
Now I am looking to replace the tires on my Trek road bike and while I was doing some online research I came across a YouTube video on the Specialized Armadillo tires. I find it interesting how many manufacturers claim they put Kevlar in their tires, but now I know what appears to make the Specialize Armadillo different.
If you are trying to decide which tire purchase I hope this information helps. Or maybe it will just add to the confusion with all the advice that is out there.
